UDP-GlcNAc:betaGal β-1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 2 is an enzyme encoded by the B3GNT2 gene in humans. It is referred as B3GNT, BGNT2, B3GNT1, BGnT-2, B3GN-T2, B3GNT-2 and BETA3GNT. This gene plays an important role in polyLacNAc synthesis and is involved in the progression of the pre-malignant lesions of human in the uterine cervix.

B3GNT5 (UDP-GlcNAc: Gal -1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase 5) plays a key role in the biosynthesis of Lewis antigens. It is mainly responsible for the synthesis of short polylactosamine chains or initiation of polylactosamine synthesis. It has been reported that overexpressed B3GNT5 in human gastric carcinoma cell lines alters sialyl-Lewis x expression and Helicobacter pylori adhesion.

β-1,4 N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase 2 is an enzyme encoded by the B4GALNT2 gene in humans. It helps in stimulating the glycosylation of α dystroglycan and up-regulates synaptic dystroglycan-binding proteins, when overexpressed. It may act as a therapeutic in various muscular dystrophy. B3GNT1 (N-acetyllactosaminide -1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase) along with UDP-Gal:GlcNAc -1,4-galactosyltransferase, polypeptide 1 (B4GALT1), catalyzes the polymerization of N-acetylglucosamine and galactose residues in an alternating manner. It is essential for the formation of i antigen, and along with I-forming -1,6-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase (IGnT), it synthesizes I antigen. Mutations in this gene leading to non-glycosylation of -dystroglycan, result in a severe form of Walker-Warburg syndrome. Mutations in this gene are also linked to congenital muscular dystrophy.

Biochem/physiol Actions
BAG4 (Bcl associated anthanogene family molecular chaperone regulator 4) functions as an adaptor and interacts with Hsp (Heat shock protein)-90/Hsc70. It interacts with tumor necrosis factor receptor type-1 (TNF-R1) and negatively regulates the apoptosis-inducing signaling pathway mediated by TNF-R1. It is also a regulator of CD95 activity. In addition, BAG4 binds to apobec-1 (apolipoprotein B mRNA editing enzyme, catalytic polypeptide 1) and negatively regulates apobec-1-mediated apolipoprotein B mRNA editing. BAG4 also protects melanoma cells from apoptosis.

Biochem/physiol Actions
BAI1-associated protein 3 is a protein encoded by the BAIAP3 gene in humans and is expressed in brain. It regulates exocytosis in cancer cells. It is co-localized with a secreted growth factor within cytoplasmic organelles and acts as a transcriptional target of the chimera. Its ectopic expression increases growth in tumor cells. It may be involved in regulating neuronal function i.e. release of neurotransmitters. This gene is also associated with anxiety and benzodiazepine use disorder.

BAZ1A (bromodomain adjacent to zinc finger domain 1A) is involved in the ATP-dependent nucleosome remodelling activity. It is a subunit of Drosophila ACF (ATP-dependent chromatin assembly factor large subunit). In Drosophila, BAZ1A forms a heteromer chromatin remodelling complex with the nucleosome-dependent ATPase ISWI (imitation swi). This complex has the ability to bind naked DNA but not nucleosomal DNA. It catalyzes the process of transfering histone octamers between DNA segments.
