Biochem/physiol Actions
TIMM17A (translocase of inner mitochondrial membrane 17 homolog A) is a part of the inner-membrane complexes, which participate in the membrane insertion of mitochondrial proteins. This protein connects TIM23 with PAM complex, and is responsible for the dynamics of TIM23 complex. Inactivation of this protein leads to the collapse of TIM23 channel into a single pore. Thus, it is essential for maintaining pore structure and voltage gating of TIM23 channels. It prevents mitochondrial (mt)DNA instability and hence, prevents mtDNA loss. In human breast cancers, its expression is linked with unfavorable parameters including, tumor grade, NPI (Nottingham prognostic index), TNM stage and nodal positivity. Thus, in breast cancer, its expression is linked with poor prognosis.

Mitochondrial import inner membrane translocase subunit Tim8 A is an enzyme encoded by the TIMM8A gene in humans. It encodes an evolutionarily conserved novel polypeptide necessary for normal human neurological development. Mutation in this gene causes deafness-dystonia-optic neuronopathy (DDON) syndrome. It is a rare X-linked recessive neurological disorder that is involved in the transport and sorting of proteins to the mitochondrial inner membrane.

Thymidine kinase 2, mitochondrial (TK2) phosphorylates thymidine (dT), deoxyuridine and deoxycytidine (dC). Biochem/physiol Actions
Transmembrane 4 L6 family member 1 is a protein encoded by the TM4SF1 gene in humans. It is a cell surface antigen, which is highly expressed in lung, breast, colon and ovarian carcinomas. It has a novel function in Androgen Receptor (AR) signaling. Its mRNA expression is higher in prostate cancer tissues as compared to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It is found to contribute to prostate cancer cell metastasis. The gene serves as a molecular organizer that interacts with membrane and cytoskeleton-associated proteins. It uniquely initiates the formation of nanopodia and facilitates cell polarization and migration. It also regulates tumour cell motility and invasiveness. It is abundant on the plasma membrane and on intracellular vesicles.
